Our Musical Journey

Pasi and Meg are primarily self-taught musicians performing together and separately with other local music groups over the years. Pasi grew up in Finland until his mid-20s and is a founding member of the PasiCats, arguably “the third best polka band in the Upper Peninsula” and currently plays also with Backroom Boys led by “Master Musician”, Oren Tikkanen. After welcoming the boys in 2012 and 2014 we filled the house with music, leaving instruments around and hoping the boys would catch the music bug. The boys were encouraged to join us, the “old folks”, on stage from very young ages, and once old enough they were enrolled in music lessons. Their interest in music continued to grow along with their skills, quickly surpassing mom and dad, and Majority Finn is our way to celebrate that!

Our music blends traditional Finnish melodies with contemporary Finnish, European and American influences, creating a sound uniquely our own. We play century old folk and dancehall tunes from Finland, but also bring our own compositions and more recent tunes, including some rock’n roll. We’ve written English lyrics to finnish songs (and somewhat vice versa) and like to perform in both languages.

As a family band, we are committed to preserving and promoting the rich musical traditions of Finland and beyond. We like to playe tunes from decades and decades ago, but also want to introduce some of the newer music from Finland to US audiences. We believe in the power of music to bring people together and create lasting memories.
